Senior VP/General Manager

Shawn Ray currently serves as the SrVP / General Manager of the Mountain Companies. He came to Mountain Enterprises as a Project Manager / Estimator in 2014 with 7 years of experience as a Transportation Engineer with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. Shawn studied at the University of Kentucky earning his Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Civil Engineering and holds a Professional Engineer’s license.

TJ is the general manager of our aggregate quarries and plants here at Mountain Companies. He has been with the team since 2010.

Ralph Steele

Ralph Steele

Quality Control Manager

Ralph started his career with Mountain Enterprises in 1996. He worked as a lab and compaction technician until 2009, when he then started managing the technicians at the plants and in the field. He has certifications and has tested in Kentucky, Ohio, and West Virginia. He is also qualified as a Work Zone Traffic Control Technician & Supervisor.

Safety Director

JL serves as our safety director. JL has been with Mountain Companies since 2005 and previously served as Emergency Management Director, Fire Chief and EMT. He has served as President of the Holmes Safety Association and is a certified CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor; Authorized OSHA and MSHA Trainer.

Jack has been with the Mountain team since 2001. Prior to joining the Mountain team Jack served as an outside sales coordinator in the construction industry. Jack started out in the purchasing department for Mountain Enterprises before assuming the duties of Equipment Manager/Dispatcher. Jacks educational background includes two years of general studies at Prestonsburg Community College and he has logged numerous hours in AGG Academy courses revolving around the ever changing equipment world. In his spare time Jack enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters.

HR Manager

Tonya has 15 years’ experience in Management and Human Resources. She is on schedule April 2023, to complete her Master’s Degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Human Resource Management at the University of the Cumberland’s. Tonya completed a 2 year Apprenticeship with Mountain Enterprise in May and returned October 2022 as the Human Resource Manager.

Lloyd L R Shepherd, or Bob, is Marketing Manager at Pine Mountain and Elkhorn Stone Quarries. He joined the Mountain Aggregate team in March 2000. He previously worked in the coal mining industry of Eastern Ky and Va. Bob has a Masters in Business Administration from Morehead State University in Morehead, Ky. He enjoys coaching and playing softball with his 3 sons, to which they won the Bluegrass State Games in 2010. Bob’s favorite saying is “You call, we haul; the rubber needs to meet the road”.

Joseph B Tharp III, or Buz, has been with Mountain Enterprises since 1991. Prior to that he worked in equipment sales for Brandeis Machinery throughout Eastern Kentucky. Buz has a degree in Business and Economics from Bellarmine University in Louisville, KY. Buz doesn’t sell stone, he sells solutions.

Jim Tackett joined Mountain Enterprises’ team in 2008 where he served as a Lab Technician at our Ashland asphalt plant. Through his efforts and knowledge Jim progressed to Mix Design Lab Supervisor where he led of one of the region’s only AASHTO accredited laboratory. In January of 2022 Jim took on the role of Commercial Project Manager and Estimator spearheading the company’s private asphalt construction program. Alex started with Mountain Enterprises in 2016 as an intern working in quality control for two summers while attending Morehead State University. Upon graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science in Construction Management, he accepted a full time role with Mountain Enterprises in 2018 and now serves as a Commercial Estimator and Project Manager.
